A Birthday and A Tammy Bag!

Happy 34th birthday sweet child of mine!!!

I love these Tammy bags!  The hardest part of making them is deciding on what fabric I want to use.  I went to Raleigh with my mother in law one day and came home with the cutest of cute fabrics and was thrilled silly!  I hope you will agree that my Tammy Bag is certainly a conversation starter!

Don't you just love those bicycles!!!

And what about that lining!

There are a ton of uses that you could think of for this cute bag!  I know a lot of the bloggers will be using their's for sewing supplies so I wanted to be a little different. ... nothing too un-original.. I am a  traditional type gal with hardly any creativeness upstairs so this is what I came up with for my Tammy.

I have everything I need for my trip to the grocery store! My checkbook.. in it's made to match cover, a matching candy bag with peppermints in case I get to coughing, a made to match coin purse for all of my loose change, my cell phone, chap stick, Bayer aspirin and my keys. I think that just about does it.

Your basic "take her to town" Tammy. :)

Peeking in at all of the loot...

The cell phone pocket...

Perfect pocket for my keys, with a snap closure...

yummy candy spilling out...

Got any loose change??

Getting back to Audrey for a moment, I have to tell you that she was born during the gas shortage of 1979.  I was in the hospital for 7 days after she was born due to an infection.  I had her by C-section and contracted some type of bacteria and ran a fever for a few days.  I could not see my baby girl for the first 48 hours of her life.  When she was born there was so much mucus in her passage-way that she was handed off to a nurse pronto so I had no clue what she even looked like.  They would pull my curtain when they brought my room mates baby to her and I would sit there and cry. They finally were able to bring her to me though and WOW!! what a whopper she was!!  She weighed 9 pounds and 6 ounces at birth!! She was the talk of the hospital!

The nursery was full of babies... ALL boys.... except my little girl!.. and she was not so little compared to all of those scrawny little boys!  She was the biggest baby in the nursery by a long shot!  You could hear people talking about her in the halls.  Of course, I swelled up with pride!  That was my baby making hospital headlines. :)

Now, 34 years later, she has grown in to a beautiful, wonderful mother herself.  She has 2 beautiful daughters of her own, Allie and Emilee.  I am so very proud of the woman she has become.

Thearica. While I think your bag is beautiful, I think your daughter Audrey and children are what steal the show. My oldest daughter is named Audrey and she was born in 1980! C-section delivery, 10 days in the hospital with complications, on and on. Of my 3 daughters, she is the one who likes to come over to sew from time to time, so that is special to me. Happy Birthday to your own precious Audrey!

I have been looking for bicycle fabric! Will you please let me know the specifics on it so that I might try to order some? Thanks.

I live on an island off Scotland, and to get to the nearest supermarket on another island, I have to take a ninety minute ferry to get there. I would therefore use my Tammy bag for the following -
Ipod - for when it gets stormy - I am not a good sailor, so music distracts me from the waves!
Peppermints - to calm my stomach (see above!)
Earphones - in the side pocket
Ferry Card - side pocket
Mini sewing kit - scissors, thread, wax, needles, pins, folding seam ripper - all in a mini tin
Poly bag with cut patchwork pieces, all ready to sew
Retractable pencil
Small notepad
Coin purse
Mobile phone

Marilyn said...

Your bag and accessories are way too cute - gives me a reason to smile on this cold, rainy day. I love the bicycle fabric. Your daughter and grand babies are gorgeous too. I would put in my wallet, Swiss Army knife, kleenex package, cell phone, car keys and a pen.

Linda C said...

Happy birthday to Audrey and her proud mama.

Lovely bag, Thearica with some wonderful accessories to go with it. Should I be lucky enough to win the giveaway I would add my two wonder wallets ( one for my money and one for the grocery money), a pack of gum, cell phone and car keys. I thought this would have made a pretty purse way after the fact.

Like the closer on yours too. Is the coin purse Mdm Samm's pattern as well? I know that was a previous hop. I bought the pattern but have not done it yet.

krisgray said...

A-dorable!! This bag pattern is so cute and all the accessories are great idea. I generally carry a tote bag as I have a 6yr old in tow most days. So, I would probably use it the way you have devised (I have bags for my embroidery supplies). Then, if I needed to run into the post office or bank, I could just grab the Tammy and leave the big tote in the car. Thank you for such a generous giveaway!

Quilting Babcia said...

This would be so perfect for an upcoming wedding I'll be attending, to hold the bare necessities of the day: wallet, phone, camera, kleenex (of course!), and probably hubby's wallet if enough room left (he hates having a wallet in his pocket). What a sweet giveaway - thank you for the chance to win!

Katie M. said...

I like the idea that this bag is of a size to be truly useful in many ways, not just a 'change' purse. I'm thinking this might be a good pool side bag. Sun Screen, lip balm, hand sanitizer with room left for the car keys & phone...

Hilachas said...

Oh, what cute fabric you chose for the bag. I'd love to own it and fill it up with my portable sewing projects. Happy Birthday to your daughter and thanks for the opportunity to win the Tammy.

But then, I looked at your bag (s) and wowie just adorable and marvelous! The whole set!! It is like miniature luggage! I love the bicycles and the trim. this is my fav bag today! Well the whole set.
thanks for sharing dear Thearica!

Love! The bikes are so cute and I adore the matching set! I would probably use it to hold various hand sewing projects. I have a lot of tiny hands that get into things and this would be the perfect way to keep it together and out of sight.

I love all your little bags. The bicycle fabric is so cute. Love reading about your daughter being born. Those little bags would be perfect for me because I do not carry a lot with me when I go out.
Yes, keys, cell phone ( it is a relic) cash of course, pen $ paper, a measuring tape, never know when you might need one and lip balm. In the little bag I would carry some little hand project.
thanks so much for a chance to win your giveaway.

Your fabric is absolutely darling and you did a great job on the projects. It is such a nice size bag too. I can see myself using it for some sewing on the go items.

Happy birthday to your daughter. How dreadful that they had you two isolated from each other at birth and yet brought the other mom's baby out!! You should have been isolated in your own room. She was a full grown baby when she was born. I am sure that the newborn clothes didn't even fit her ;-)

StitchinByTheLake said...

Thearica what a beautiful Tammy bag and I hate that I didn't think of all those accessories. :) The set is so special but not nearly as special as your daughter and her daughters....our children and grandchildren bring smiles to our faces and love to our hearts. blessings, marlene

Melinda said...

Love your version of the Tammy! And all the accessories are great. My daughter was only 7 pounds but my son was 9.6 so I understand having a big baby! Of course, he's on the small size now for his age which strikes me as funny knowing how he came into the world!!

CharlotteT said...

Thearica, Love that Tammy bag! If I had one I would be totally proud of it! I am afraid I could not make it and that is why I never join the purse hops.

Mara said...

Wonderful bag, love the bicycles and the birth story is wonderful, I feel your pain about not seeing your little baby, my son was taken to a hospital 3 hours from where we live after my emergency C-Section and they didn't let me out of the hospital to go visit him for the first 10 days, it was horrible, my husband kept driving back and forth between the 2 of us in the hospitals.

I am never organized on shopping day! Happy Birthday to your daughter. My son was born in 1978, a Cesarean as well and he was a hair over nine pounds. The nurses called him the teenager, lol.

Happy birthday to Audrey! I love the fabric you have used. If I was lucky enough to win I would use Tammy for little sewing projects. I would use the coin purse as my secret sewing money that I try to stash away!
