A Wallhanging for Leanne!

I have a friend, Vicki Welsh, who is a fabulous longarm quilter and also dyes fabric by hand.  I was on her website a couple of weeks ago and found the perfect pattern!  Another fellow longarmer, Deb Levy, is collaborating with Vicki and they are kitting up patterns that Deb designs with Vicki's hand dyed fabrics!  Now this is a win-win proposition!

This is the pattern that I ordered...
Is that not the most beautiful Egret you have ever seen!

I chose to do raw edge fusible applique on my wallhanging.  I actually stitched the edges after it was on the longarm.  The pattern was really easy to follow but the ribbon gave me fits just a little.  I do not think I put the pieces in the correct order but it still looks ok.  I used some batiks that I had on hand for the flowers and leaves to blend with Vicki's hand dyed background piece .  I used a shimmery crazy quilting fabric for the moon. It is unbound at the moment because I cannot decide what I want to use.  I am thinking about ordering a yard of fabric from Vicki dyed to match the bluish/purple at the top.  I think that would frame it quite nicely.

Enjoy the photos.  I have several close ups of the quilting.

I also have another bird to share with you today.  My hubby and I love to go to Coley Bunch Nursery every spring to buy lantanas for our flower gardens.  They happen to have the most beautiful peacock on site for their customers to enjoy.  I was able to get these photos of him on our most recent excursion to the nursery and would love to share him with you today..

And in keeping with the "Bird" theme, my friend, Margreet, is a wonderful artist!  She makes beautiful crazy quilts and is also a hand carver!  Just look at this thread box that she made for herself!  This is the most exquisite hand carving I have ever seen! You should visit her blog!
