Summertime Travels

I guess you could say I have been on a blogging break.  I had my granddaughter all summer.  I think I have blogged 5 times since she came to the farm.  But that is ok... computers can wait... grandchildren cannot.  We stayed busy having fun and then I got to spend over a week in Alabama visiting the rest of my family when I took her home.

Allie has grown a mile since last summer!

So has Miss Emily!
Her momma is teaching her bad habits!
She should have on a ROLL TIDE shirt!

Ace came for play dates a few times.
He and Allie hit it off really well!

We have our farm up for sale and are moving to be near my family when it sells.  My first cousin is a realtor and she lined up some available properties to show me just to get us started with an idea of what is out there.  Never did I realize she would have 18 properties on Friday, the first day there after a 2 day trip in.  WOW!!  Talk about total exhaustion!  The next day wasn't as bad but coupled with the exhaustion, it was... 10 properties on Saturday!

Parker is helping my cousin's hubby show us this place.
(which I hope we get a chance to buy!)

For the remainder of the visit, it was all about family and getting together with them, which kept me in the truck every day.  My youngest daughter is building a new home with her hubby so I opted to stay in a hotel the duration of our visit.  My friend Libby rode with me and it was always after 9:00pm before we were able to get back to our room.  We basically just got in our nighties and crashed every night. I don't think she will be so eager to go with me again.  I wore her slab dab out!

Sweet Libby

The trip was delightful regardless of how tired I was and it took me 4 days to get over the trip once I got home.  I always put away fresh peaches for homemade ice cream and cobblers and I was about out of time by the time I got home so on Thursday my mother-in-law and I made a trip to the farmers market to get some Big Reds.  Peaches will be gone next week so we cut it close this year!

Here are the fruits of our labour.

diced peaches over chocolate ice cream (don't knock it till you try)
1 large batch of homemade ice cream
19 quarts of canned peaches for cobblers
11 super-quarts of frozen peaches for ice cream
12 pints of peach freezer jam for warm biscuits
Large skillet of fried squash for dinner
12 quarts of squash ready for frying

Thank you Lord for our bounty.

I have been following your blog for a little while now and I just realized that you have the Crazy Quilting Supplies "Store" that I just ordered from. What a small cyberspace.

You've had a great summer from the sounds of it. Personally, I think Emily absolutely has on the right jersey! War Eagle :)

Love that you got to spend so much time with family and that you'll be moving closer to them soon. Best of luck selling your place and finding a new home.

What a wonderful summer. I know it'll be difficult to leave the farm. I grew up on a small farm and I miss it every day. I could not begin to do a bit of the work with my fibromyalgia, though. I'm thrilled you got to spend time with family and had a great friend at your side. Glad you are already looking at potential properties.
I had a great summer. I went to Albuquerque to see daughter and family. I saw my daughter 2 days the entire 2+ weeks I was there. I knew she and hubby would be gone one week. She had an opportunity to meet up with sorority sisters in Dallas for a long weekend and I couldn't deny her the opportunity. I had a blast with the boys (3 and 8). We crafted every day - sidewalk chalk (even daughter and son-in-law got in on the action when they returned), sun catchers (daughter did help that time), clay, Play-Doh, paint with jar lids as shapes. We even went shopping for some of the supplies. We had a ball. It's hard to compete with electronic media. Then I went on a trip of a lifetime to England and attended the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham. My paternal grandfather is from England so it was like going home without ever being there. Now, grandma in Albuquerque is going to Israel and I'm going back for three weeks. Little guy in going to pre-school for the first time. So, I'll be taxi driver and sitter and big guy is out of school every Wednesday afternoon. Then the week after I get home, I'm having another lumpectomy. My first was in November 2003. It's in the exact same spot - probably scar tissue. It's practically on my back - where the breast meets the side. We can't get the spot on a mammogram or a breast MRI. All 4 doctors do NOT think the cancer is back. So, we are postponing the surgery until I return from Albuquerque. It'll be a long healing time on a radiated breast and risk of infection and he doesn't want the boys jostling my breast. It should be a piece of cake. I was up and out the next day last time. He doesn't plan to go into the lymph nodes this time. I've missed you with our busy lives. I'll be praying that your property sells quickly and you get what you need from it to make the move. I know it's difficult to be away from family. My son moved to the Oklahoma City area earlier this year to be with his son and his son's mom (I call her my daughter-in-law). She and I have remained friends all these years that they have had difficulties. So, I am totally alone here. Prayers will be flowing for you. I'm anxious to see your post and glad to see the hops again. I hope to try to join in again after things settle down.
