Mildred's Birthday Celebration!

I have had an incredible week sharing with other quilters and spending time with family!

On Wednesday my good friend Marie and a new-to-me friend, Frances, came over for a sew in.  Frances wants to learn to sew quilt blocks on a sewing machine and I told her that I would teach her what I know.  She has been a hand piecer/hand quilter since way back but has never attempted a quilt on the machine. She has sewn clothing in the past so she does have an ace in the hole to get started.

Marie brought a couple of quilts to bind and I grabbed some photos before she left...

Frances brought a quilt block kit that she needed to do for a guild project.  I forgot to grab a photo of it but I did get some photos of one of her handmade quilts!  Isn't this a beauty! Hand pieced!  Hand quilted!

For the past 2 days we have been celebrating my mother in laws birthday!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of making dinner for my mother and father in law and 2 aunts.  We had white chicken chili, Mexican cornbread muffins and fresh apple cake for dessert!  I baked the cake in a bundt pan and it exploded when I tried to take it out so we kind of had apple dump cake.. but when the caramel sauce went on it, it did not matter where it came from... it was just yummy scrumptious!

After dinner 2 of the sister in laws and Garrett, my nephew came down.  We played 2 games of Aggravation!  I won the first game and my mother in law won the second. They said I was not a good hostess since I won the first game.... Oh well.. they will have to play better next time. lol

Today I took my mother in law and the 2 aunts, her sisters, to Raleigh for a fun girls day out to celebrate Mildred's turning 82 years young!  We ate at Sweet Tomatoes, went to JoAnn's Fabric Store, and stopped at the Dairy Queen on the way home.

I have given Aunt Neva a quilt in the past but had never given Aunt Linda one so I presented her with this baby today.  She loved it! ....as I expected her to.  I grabbed this photo of the 3 sisters on Mildred's front porch with the quilt. Mildred is on the left, Linda in the middle, and Neva on the right.

Here are some close up photos of my work on the quilt.  The border design is my first quilting design.  I call it the Feathered Butterfly.  My hubby calls it a Feathered Bug. lol

I truly enjoyed making this quilt from start to finish.  It was the first time that I ever worked with fairy frost fabrics.  I love how they quilt up! And if you have followed my blog long enough, you will know that the churn dash pattern is one of my all-time favorites so I used it to piece this quilt.  I told my hubby that I would make us a quilt like this again.  He agreed.

We know that Aunt Linda will love and cherish it always!  And when she needs a special hug, all she has to do is wrap up in her new quilt!:)
