Vintage Tuesday

I found this yo-yo quilt in an antique shop about 15 years ago.  From the looks of the fabrics I would say that the yo-yo's are made from clothing that the maker wore and possibly other members of her family too. It is expertly made and has no tears or rips that I can see. I have handwashed it twice and it is due another washing but the older it gets, I get scared to do much to it.  What would you do?

The glassware sitting on the quilt was given to me by my Aunt Lurlie.  I used to help her a little in the summer with her housework and she would pay me with pieces of this glass.
She got them from inside boxes of oats.  I am not sure if it was Quaker Oats or not though.  I had 2 more pieces but they have gotten broken over the years.  Do any of you have pieces of glassware from boxes of oats?

I love this! I am working on my lifetime achievement of a yoyo bedspread. So easy, so addicting and a great stash scrap buster. I am planning on attaching mine to a thin cotton blanket for a secure backing.
I generally soak my vintage linens in a tub and gently lie them out to dry in the sun.

I don't have tea cups from Quaker Oats, but I do have a few pieces of nostalgia from soap boxes. I probably should dust them off today.

I found you through surfing, I will be back.

What a beautiful quilt. I would be nervous about washing it as well. I can remember making yo yos with my grandmother was I was just small.

The glassware is pretty as well. How interesting that they came from oats. Wouldn't it be fun to get something like that in your foodstuffs today?

Wow! That is a lot of Yo-yos!!! I have a small yo-yo table topper in the back of my mind one day, but could never make that many...
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing. I'd go with the bathtub idea. Love the yo-yo's. They have certainly regained popolarity along with their cousin the hexagon.

What memories this brings ! I have a yo-yo quilt Mom made me a few years ago before we started quilting, she put this on on a pink blanket and it sure did keep us warm! It is in need of a good washing, I am also afraid to wash it as it is very heavy, I never thought about using it as a table cover. We also made little clowns, vest and dolls out of yo-yo's.
I remember us getting glassware out of oat boxes and soap boxes too, too bad they don't do that any more,I have no idea where all the glass wear is now.

Very nice yo yo quilt and I love the glass ware. I was given a set of dishes by my great aunt that has a red rose on it with green around the rim. I love it but dont use it much for fear of breaking it.

That is a beautiful quilt, could you put it in a pillow case and wash it on a gentle wash in the machine?
